SOLAR PANEL REQUIREMENT ESTIMATOR

Solar Panel Calculator

Estimate how many solar panels you need from monthly electricity usage, daily energy demand or a target solar-system size. Calculate panel count, installed DC capacity, expected generation and approximate roof space.

โ˜€๏ธ
Use this tool after you know your energy requirement If you do not know your daily or monthly electricity use, calculate appliance consumption first with the Solar Load Calculator.

Calculate Solar Panel Requirements

Choose the input you already know. The calculator keeps solar-resource, panel and roof assumptions editable because real installations vary by site.

If you want solar to offset only part of your electricity use, reduce the target coverage below 100%.

Solar panel & production assumptions

The 14% loss value is only a planning default. Edit peak sun hours and losses for the location, shading, orientation and system assumptions you want to model.

Optional roof-space estimate

Panel dimensions are an editable example only. Replace them with the exact manufacturer dimensions of the module you plan to use. Roof layout, access, setbacks, tilt and shading can require additional space.

ESTIMATED PANEL REQUIREMENT
0 panels
rounded upward to whole solar panels
Required Solar Size 0.00 kW
Installed DC Size 0.00 kW
Panel Wattage 550 W
Estimated Daily Generation 0.00 kWh
Estimated Monthly Generation 0.00 kWh
Estimated Annual Generation 0 kWh
Approx. Panel Surface Area 0.00 mยฒ
Approx. Roof Area With Allowance 0.00 mยฒ
Approximate roof area in square feet 0 sq ft
Planning estimate only. Actual PV production depends on solar resource, array orientation, tilt, temperature, shading, inverter performance, equipment characteristics and other losses. Confirm final system design and roof suitability with qualified local professionals.

How to Use the Solar Panel Calculator

Choose the starting value you already know. If you have an electricity bill, use monthly kWh or units. If you already know your daily energy requirement, use daily kWh. If you simply want to see how many panels make up a 3 kW, 5 kW or 10 kW system, select System Size.

Then enter the solar-panel wattage you plan to use. The calculator rounds panel count upward because a real installation cannot use a fraction of a panel.

How Many Solar Panels Do I Need?

Required Solar kW = Daily Solar Energy Target รท [Peak Sun Hours ร— (1 โˆ’ System Losses)]
Number of Panels = Required Solar Watts รท Wattage per Panel

When you calculate from monthly electricity use, the monthly kWh is first converted to daily energy. The target solar-coverage percentage can then be used to model either full or partial offset.

Solar Panel Calculator From Monthly Electricity Units

Electricity bills usually show energy consumption in kilowatt-hours, often referred to as units. If a home uses 600 kWh in a 30-day month, that is an average of 20 kWh per day before any solar-coverage adjustment.

The calculator uses that daily energy target together with editable peak sun hours and system losses to estimate the DC solar capacity required.

Solar Panel Calculator for Pakistan

Pakistan users can enter monthly electricity units directly from a recent bill and then choose the panel wattage being considered. Solar-resource assumptions remain editable because generation varies between locations, seasons and individual rooftops.

Solar Panel Calculator for India

India users can use the same calculation method with monthly or daily kWh. The tool does not lock the country to one solar-generation figure, allowing peak sun hours and system losses to be adjusted for the project location.

Solar Rooftop Space Calculator

The optional roof estimate multiplies the number of panels by the length and width of one module. An extra layout-space percentage can be added for practical planning.

This is not a roof-design or structural calculation. Real layouts can require additional space for access, setbacks, tilt, inter-row spacing, obstacles and shading.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many solar panels are needed for a 5 kW system?

Divide 5,000 watts by the wattage of one panel and round upward. For example, the number changes depending on whether you use 450 W, 550 W or another module rating.

Can I calculate panels from my monthly electricity bill?

Yes. Enter monthly kWh or units, choose your desired solar coverage, and adjust the solar-resource assumptions for the project.

Why does the calculator round panel count upward?

Solar panels are installed as complete modules. If the calculation produces a fractional panel count, the result is rounded upward so the installed DC capacity meets or exceeds the calculated requirement.

Is 550 W the only panel size I can use?

No. It is only the editable starting value in this calculator. Enter the actual module wattage you are considering.

Why are peak sun hours editable?

Solar resource changes by location and season. Keeping this field editable is more useful than assuming the same solar conditions everywhere.

Does this tool calculate exact solar production?

No. It is a simplified planning calculator. More detailed production modeling uses location-specific weather and system information.

Can I use this calculator in Pakistan and India?

Yes. The core energy calculations are not country-specific. Adjust the solar-resource and module inputs for the proposed installation.
